My name is Mrs. Stacy Costa. I am Melzer School's Literacy Specialist and Reading Recovery Teacher. My goal is for our school to be a community of learners based on mutual respect for all individual differences. I want the students to know that our school is a safe environment where students are encouraged to share, make mistakes, learn from one another, and learn from me. Teaching all children to read and write requires that every learner receives excellent reading and writing instruction and necessary additional instruction when needed. When coming to my room, students will engage in reading, writing, and word work activities in a small group or one-on-one.
I studied at Concordia University in River Forest to earn my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I also have obtained two Master's degrees, Curriculum & Instruction and Reading Specialist, from National Louis University. I started my career in District 63 in 2005. I have spent my time as an assistant, classroom teacher, and Multilingual Resource teacher. I am proud to now be a Literacy Specialist!
When I am not in school, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling to baseball stadiums and National Parks, and listening to audiobooks. I am also involved in Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and my local school's PTA.
